The divertimento style of Haydn’s early quartets makes arrangement for other instruments natural and expands the enjoyment of these wonderful first significant Haydn works. Haydn’s Op.1, No.1 has been arranged as an effective, beautiful flute quartet.
Robert Schumann’s “Fünf Stücke im Volkston” were written for cello and piano. Clara Schumann thought them beguiling, fresh, & original. Arranged by others for a variety of solo instruments, and popular for good reason, the “Five Pieces” were transcribed for alto flute by John W. Pratt.
