John W. Pratt has just completed his adaptation for flutes of Mozart’s highly regarded Quintet, K.516, originally for strings. The work’s textural possibilities apply also to a flute quintet, and its musical and emotional content are well worth viewing through the prism of a flute ensemble consisting of two concert flutes, two alto flutes, and bass flute.
